Taste Resident DJs will provide the soundtrack to enhance your multi-sensory Taste experience throughout the festival.

Melbourne’s tastiest tracks will accompany its best gourmet bites thanks to a new music line-up at Taste of Melbourne in partnership with Electrolux  from 30 November to 3 December 2017.

Kicking off on Thursday 30 November, Australia’s pioneering female DJ Miss Goldie will take over the decks under the stars for Taste’s lavish 10th Birthday Bash, with scrumptious amuse bouche from Melbourne’s top chefs, live DJs, and free-flowing fine wine as Melbourne’s favourite tastemakers gather at the MCG.

On Friday 1 December and Saturday 2 December, acclaimed funk-tronic duo GL and Melbourne’s favourite balladeer Fraser A. Gorman will transform Yarra Park evening sessions into the city’s tastiest dancefloor.

GL – made of much loved Melbourne singer Ella Thompson and multi-instrumentalist Graeme Pogson – and Torquay-raised Gorman will command the Yarra Park dance floor with a contrast of retro synthesisers, drum machines and dreamy vocals, soulful acoustic ballads and the warm twang of a slide guitar.

A selection of Melbourne’s most tasteful DJs will also be spinning succulent tunes for guests to enjoy across the site for the duration of the festival, including live mixes from Mike Gurrieri, Sammy The BulletHorne Dogg, and popular PBS Radio hosts Vince PeachRick Howe and Richie 1250.

A philologist, enthusiast and record collector best known for presenting the “Stone Love” radio program on PBS FM, organising the monthly slow dance party “Slow Grind Fever”, and compiling it’s attendant series of compilation LPs. He specialises in playing atmospheric 45s, 78s and LPs from the era roughly between the second world war and the dawn of bell bottom trousers, and enjoys spinning Big Daddy Kane and Mariah Carey 12″s when the occasion permits.

 

Miss Goldie 

Always collected records but she started seriously collecting and DJing professionaly in the mid 90’s, cutting her teeth at Thomas Crown’s weekly night Get Down in Sydney along with regular spots at MoFonics, The Blue Room, Candy’s and Off The Cuff parties that she run with L Static.

Miss Goldie has always had an eye for the small run, regional black American 45 labels and over the last 3 decades has emassed a collection of sort after obsurities from deep soul face melters to dance floor bangers.

Miss Goldie started doing radio in Sydney 2001 at East Side Radio as part of “Fire On The Wire” and then “Sounds of Soul”. Moving to Melbourne she was quickly picked up at PBS and has been hosting “Boss Action” for the last 8yrs.

In Melbourne she is a fixture in the bar & restaurant dj scene She is a founding recident of Australia’s biggest soul party; Soul A Go Go and a regular guest at Jamacian Jump Up and Mz Risk’s Block Parties. She’s has supported many local soul bands The Bamboo’s, Kylie Auldist, Cactus Channel, The Seven Ups to mention just a few, along with international artists – Eddie Bo, Betty Harris, Snow Boy, Keb Darge, Charles Walker, Cool Herc, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings and festivals such as Falls, Big Day Out, Freedom Time and Moomba. She has also been heavily involved in the underground Northern Soul scene as both a DJ and event organiser, DJing across Australia.

Gabe Roth aka Bosco Man of Daptone Records and founder of Sharon Jones & The Dapkings sites the annual mixes she sends as an influence on his writing. Legendary UK funk and soul  DJ Keb Darge has this to say about her “From the moment I met Miss Goldie in 2003 I thought “fuck me this girls a good laugh, and serious about records in a way most of the wankers who brag about being serious about records are not” She has now become one of the great pleasures I look forward too whenever I visit. No bullshit, and proper tunes every time.”

Miss Goldie is one of Australia’s finest taste makers and one of Australia’s pioneering female DJ’s, because of this she is well known and respected across the globe.

 

Rick Howe

The host of Reggae show Riddim Yard on PBS 106.7 FM and produces music and culture documentaries for ABC Radio National.

 

 

 

 

 

 Mike Gurrieri

Mike Gurrieri is a DJ, radio presenter, label owner & music lover who has established himself as one of the most diverse & in-demand selectors on the Melbourne circuit. Priding himself on continually pushing new sounds as well as incorporating music from the past, Mike’s sets are always full of surprises.

His many years working behind the counter of several Melbourne record stores (presently Northside Records) has meant Mike has built up an incredibly diverse record collection over the years, incorporating elements of jazz, soul, disco, hip hop & electronic music from all over the world.

Aside from his regular DJ sets around the bars, clubs & festivals of Melbourne, Mike’s sounds can also be heard on a weekly basis on his radio show ‘Mystic Brew’ which airs every Tuesday morning at 9am on Melbourne community station PBS 106.7FM. Previous guests on the show include: Thundercat, Kamasi Washington, Osunlade, Jose James, Michael Kiwanuka, Gregory Porter, The Internet, Hiatus Kaiyote, Jordan Rakei, Carl Cox & many more.

In 2017, Mike travelled to Europe and recorded more radio for Worldwide FM, Red Light Radio, NTS & Reform Radio as well as playing gigs in Amsterdam, London, Manchester & Brighton.

Mike is also responsible for the Equinox Recordings label, which has released some of the most exciting contemporary records to come out of Melbourne in recent years including releases from The Raah Project, Tulalah & the original vinyl release of Hiatus Kaiyote’s debut EP ‘Tawk Tomahawk’.

 

Horne Dogg

David Horne (or as he is affectionately known amongst some music circles – “Horne Dogg”) is a Melbourne based DJ.

Having cut his teeth in some of Sydney’s most loved bars and clubs (including a three year residency at the infamous late night party den, The Flinders) Dave’s sets have been known to keep a party kicking well into the wee hours.

Forever searching for new and rare music, David’s sets have been known to include everything from disco to house to African rare groove and classic party tunes.

 

 

 

 

 

Liverpool born Vince Peach has been spinning original soul 45s for as long as anyone can remember. An avid collector of Northern Soul, Vince still manages to unearth gems that keep dance floors jumping all over his adopted homeland. With records arriving on a daily basis, you can always be sure to hear something new at his gigs around town.

Vince Peach hosts Soul Time on PBS FM, reputed to be the longest running soul show in the world.

Original DJ at Cherry Bar, the Thursday night soul sessions ‘In the Basement’ has been running for 11 years and is the longest running weekly soul night in the world. Vince laid the foundations for the highly successful Soul a Go Go, where he still tops the bill after three fabulous years. Come along and listen to Vince spinning Northern Soul, Sweet Soul and Motown. You won’t be disappointed!

Among the Artists featured are Aretha Franklin. Marvin Gaye, Martha and the Vandellas. Al Green, Otis Redding, 4 Tops, Gladys Knight,  Stevie Wonder and lots more.
