Julia Busuttil Nishimura
Julia Busuttil Nishimura is a Melbourne-based Italian teacher, food writer, and the creator of Ostro – an online space where she shares her recipes, images and stories. Julia is a regular contributor to Australian and international publications and has been featured by Australian Gourmet Traveller, Delicious, The Design Files, Design*Sponge, Assemble Papers and Yen. She has gained a strong and loyal following for her uncomplicated, seasonal food and teaches sell out cooking and baking workshops in and around both Sydney and Melbourne.
Julia’s debut cookbook ‘Ostro’ was released in September 2017. As an Australian of Maltese descent and an Italian speaker, who is married to a Japanese man, Julia and her food represent everything that is good about modern Australian eating. She deftly brings together a broad range of cuisines and culinary influences using the very best produce on offer. Her interpretations of dishes from Italy and the Mediterranean feel both timelessly familiar and altogether fresh and new. Her recipes celebrate simple food that is comforting and generous in spirit. Ostro has been at the top of bestseller lists at independent bookstores and been praised by the likes of Jamie Oliver, Silvia Colloca and Belinda Jeffery. Julia lives in Melbourne with her husband Nori and son Haruki.
